March 2022 books I plan to read

Three new books I’m excited to read when I can get a copy!

I keep a list each year of new books scheduled for publishing that sound interesting to me. I add to it as the year goes on. The following books are from that list.

I used to put lots of books on this blog list each month I knew I’d never get a chance to read. In the last few months I’ve started only adding books to this monthly post I know I will read or at least start to read. (Every year there are books that sound good, but either don’t fit my mood, cost too much or have things about them I don’t like.) I also start books, but don’t always finish them if they’re not keeping my interest or have other issues I don’t like.

The three books on my list this month are all books by authors I’ve read before and I’m excited they’re going to finally be published!

March 8

Crowbones

Sunday Post: Spring is here

Connecting with others to talk about books plus a little about our personal lives

Kimberly hosts the Sunday Post each week. I like to take part because it gives me an opportunity to look back at last week and forward to next week in both my personal life and my blog and book life! I also love to see what other people are doing and what books everyone is reading.

Personal life

Yesterday we had our first real spring day–up to 74 degrees! And then last night we had thunderstorms most of the night and woke up to the alert for a Tornado Warning. We got up, but by the time we checked the weather on the TV the storm had moved so fast it was past us. We got quite a bit of rain and it was windy, but we didn’t get the brunt of the storm. I haven’t heard that anyone in our area actually had any damage.

No problems this time, but spring is here with it’s changeable weather (more cold temps next week), thunderstorms (more thunderstorms tonight) and possible tornadoes.

Alaska

Our two daughters are in Alaska so my husband and I are cat and dog sitting! The girls are spending about a week in Anchorage. The Iditarod starts this weekend. This is the 50th running of the Iditarod Trail Dog Sled Race. The race commemorates the freight route to Nome, Alaska and the way sled dogs contributed to the settling of Alaska. For example, sled dogs were used in 1925 to deliver serum to Nome when a diphtheria outbreak threatened Nome and the surrounding area. The dog teams that delivered the serum and saved the area from an epidemic were hailed as heroes. (Sorry about all the history and lore here. I’ve always loved stories about sled dogs starting when I was a preteen and read Jack London’s The Call of the Wild–though I cried and cried as I read it. After that I read other happier stories about sled dogs!)

My daughters are loving their time in the Anchorage area. They’ve met up with relatives who live in Alaska and they’ve seen some of the wildlife, had great meals, done a little shopping and seen the start of the race.

My hand is healing

I’m still wearing a splint and my hand hurts at times–especially where the pins poke out of my hand or I’ve used my hand too much. My doctor says I should get the pins removed in about a week. I opted to have the pins removed in the doctor’s office rather than in the operating room where I would have to have anesthesia and spend hours at the hospital. I have to admit I’m a little anxious about the pin removal. The doctor says it will hurt, but I figure three pins shouldn’t take more than a minute or two to remove so it should get done fast (I hope)!

Blog

I haven’t done very much on my blog. I’ve been tired lately so I take naps almost every day. Some days I don’t even open up my computer which is kind of amazing to me.
